Explorations of Mughal Gardens in Lahore
The Shalimar Gardens in Lahore, Pakistan, are another exquisite Mughal-era garden complex, often referred to as the “Shalimar Bagh.” Commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1641, these gardens hold historical and cultural significance and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The garden complex is located northeast of the walled city of Lahore and spreads over 80 acres along the Grand Trunk Road.
Four major elements that we offer:
- History: Briefing on history of the building.
- Exploration of the garden
- Sightseeing and photography.
- Quick sketching and painting
The gardens feature stunning landscaping, water channels, fountains, pavilions, and beautifully manicured lawns. The central axis of the garden is marked by a canal that runs through the terraces, supplying water to various fountains and pools.
Each terrace has unique architectural elements, such as pavilions and marble buildings, reflecting the distinctive architectural style of the Mughal period. The gardens were designed not only for their aesthetic appeal but also to provide a cool retreat during hot summers, utilizing the natural flow of water to maintain a pleasant atmosphere.
